Obesity in African-American Children

What is Obesity? Obesity is caused by a combination of excessive caloric intake and a lack of physical activity. Genetics, medical reasons, or illness can also lead to obesity.

Fat, fatter, fattest are some of the unkind words used to describe many children today. In today’s society, obesity is the main reason for a number of health issues. Obesity has reached an all-time high in the United States because of the alarming rate of consumption of high-caloric diets and very little physical activity; if at all any. The lack of physical activity and diet can affect one’s weight control. Surely, there are those who would suggest that people should be more aware of their eating habits and make better choices.  Yet they are those who feel that it is the fast food giants such as McDonald's, Burger King, and Wendy's, to name a few, which should be held accountable. Herpes

More than 1.5 million Americans aged twelve and over are currently infected with herpes. The risk of getting the disease increases without the use of a condom. Quite a number of people believe they are not at risk for sexually transmitted diseases. However, STDs are the nation’s most common type of infection. The disease can lay dormant for years. Even people who have had only one sexual partner can have an STD. Many people feel that talking about sexual health can be awkward or embarrassing. However, there are good reasons to start the conversation. Some STDs can cause lasting damage or become more difficult to treat the longer you wait. Enlisting the help of your health care provider is the first step in diagnosing and treating any sexually transmitted disease--and protecting your sexual health. Unfortunately, many people do not use proper protection on a regular basis when they engage in sexual activity. (read more)
