Growing up on the west side of Chicago, Obsession began writing at the age of 7. Winning countless awards in her youth, it was plain to see that she was indeed gifted. Upon graduation from a young Chicago author's program, she published two poetry books by the age of 17. Obsession is currently working on her third novel and fourth poetry. She now resides on the north side of Chicago, where she teaches transitional kindergarten.

Her titles include:Climatic Successions: A mosaic of broken hearts and Catch 22: Love's Paradox (Climatic's sequel)

About “Catch 22”

If you thought that you knew Brooklyn, Ethan, Aaron, Derricka, Thailand and Adriana… well think again. In this highly anticipated sequel to Climatic Successions, you will discover that love not only changes but exposes individuals for who they truly are.Greed… temptation… insecurities… lies and unresolved issues have created a maze that if the wrong path is chosen, it can lead to catastrophic consequences. Will they find treasures within trials and tribulations? Or will their love fail and all they've worked and wished for be in vain?

DP: When did you first decide you wanted to become an author?

Obsession: I've been a poetess since I was 7 years old. I embarked on the journey of novel writing in 2010.

DP: How did you decide on the idea for your first book?

Obsession: The theory "Six degrees of separation" has always intrigued me. I knew that I could build a good story around it.

DP: How long did it take you to write your first book?

Obsession: 6 months

DP: Did you self-publish or are you signed to a publishing company?

Obsession: I was signed to a publishing company but I wasn't satisfied with the services, so I'm recently self-published.

DP: How did you decide on the cover for your most recent book?

Obsession: I figured after reading Climatic Successions, people would like to see what some of the characters looked like. So I asked my designer to put two of the characters on the cover with a bedroom in the background. It's up to the readers to figure out which two characters they are.

DP: Tell us about your writing style. Do you write on a schedule?

Obsession: My writing style is raw, real, and in your face like my personality. Do I write on a schedule? please, I wish!

DP: What makes your writing unique?

Obsession: My writings are very vivid and imaginable. From my poetry to my stories, you can place yourself in every scenario; you can feel and understand every verse. I write from the core. There is nothing shallow about me or my work.

DP: As a writer, what motivates you?

Obsession: Pain, pressure & chaos are what motivate me to write. I have to be under attack of one of the three in order to write. When I'm at peace, my notebook pages remain blank.

DP: How do you balance your writing and various responsibilities that come along with being an independent author?

Obsession: I don't balance, I just get it done.

DP: When you’re not writing what are you doing?

Obsession: When I’m not writing, I’m reading, listening to music, watching my favorite television shows or cooking. I love to cook and bake!

DP: What’s a typical day like for you?

Obsession: A typical day is work, jotting down ideas, writing, cooking, researching SOMETHING because my mind is always wondering, pacing around the house with my headphones on. Even though I'm snapping my fingers to the music, my mind is usually somewhere else.

DP: Tell us about your last book signing.

Obsession: I haven't had one for Climatic Successions and Catch 22 yet, but I am planning signings to take place in the Spring.

DP: Do you have contests or giveaways?

Obsession: Yes.I had a contest for Catch 22. Whoever left the best review was chosen to receive a $25 gift card and had their review published on the back cover of Catch 22.

DP: Great way to get readers to leave reviews!

DP: Many independent authors find it hard to get readers to buy their books. How did you handle the challenges that come along with being a first-time author in a competitive and ever-changing market?

Obsession: I prayed and I grind. You have to have faith and a good work ethic to push your product. A lot of people don't like taking chances on new authors and I don't blame them. It's a lot of disappointing material out here.

DP: What did you do on your 2nd book that you did not do in your first one?

Obsession: Switched up editors. I needed a new and fresh eye to look over my work for creative purposes.

DP: If you could give one piece of advice to an up and coming author, what would it be?

Obsession: Do not and I mean do not publish your work without it being copyrighted and thoroughly edited. I've made that mistake and now I'm in the process of making corrections to both of my novels.

DP: Where can readers purchase a copy of your book?

Obsession: My books can be purchased on Amazon.com

DP: Please list any literary awards, honors, and book club affiliations.

Obsession: I've won countless awards in my youth for poetry. I haven't received any honors for my novels yet. Soon though.
